Mandocasts

These mandocasts will typically be short pieces:

• reviews of movies, restaurants, books, hardware, software, or anything else I decide to review;
• observations about life, especially as it pertains to technology's role;
• occasional performances by a band with which I'm performing;
• and who knows what else.

• Mandocast 13: A "Meta-Mandocast" about Fair Use Exceptions to the Copyright Law. This is the short version of a sample podcast I might prepare for the class I teach at the University of Delaware. The short version linked above and published as part of the RSS feed, will be played at a workshop for faculty on June 14, 2006.

• Mandocast 12: Indian Ate a Woodchuck, performed by Tater Patch. Shel, Judy, and Marge play the heck out of this tune, while Tony and I hold down the rhythm section. This may end up on the next CLASI (www.declasi.org) fund-raising CD, helping raise funds for legal services for the indigent. This is the mp3 version of this episode. The version served by the RSS feed is an M4A file, since it is an "extended podcast" with images and URLs. • Mandocast 11: Back in Business--Wait, a Thunderstorm. Well, after having disk problems with two different computers, I finally got another episode published. Nothing brilliant this time--just a rant about how dependent I've become on my DSL connection.... (6/1/06)

• Mandocast 10: The College Board. Looks like I'll be publishing new episodes more like once a month rather than once a week. In this episode, I rant a bit about the College Board, the marathon that once was an "aptitude" test, and the October 2005 test results--whose errors were so sluggishly reported. (4/18/06)
• Mandocast 09: The Lone Pilgrim and A House of Gold. Sorry it took so long to get the next episode ready. But I think it was worth the wait. This episode includes Debbie Durant, one of my colleagues in IT at the University of Delaware, singing two hymns: "The Lone Pilgrim" from the old Southern Harmony collection and Hank Williams' "A House of Gold." Oh, wait, the plot thickens. We had to buy the rights to distribute "A House of Gold" (via the Harry Fox Agency). And those rights did not include use of the entire song in a podcast. So, if you like the portion in this mandocast, you can download it from a special directory that will allow me to monitor the traffic. (3/20/06)
• Mandocast 08: Voices and Visions. It struck me as a significant gesture that someone would open an independent bookstore in this day and age. So I spent some time talking with Angela Roche, the proprietor of Voices and Visions, a bookstore that opened in July 2005, in the lower level of the Philadelphia Bourse. • Mandocast 07: Apple--Vertical Marketing with a Friendly Twist. Again, the soundtrack is all assembled from loops and production music that comes as part of Apple's Garage Band. (2/12/06)
• Mandocast 06: Super Bowl--a Review. I gave the Super Bowl two stars (out of 4). The game--eh, the refs--eh, the ads--eh, the half-time--ugh. OK, I liked some of the ads OK--and some individual plays were good. But.... This time, the soundtrack is all assembled from loops and production music that comes as part of Apple's Garage Band.
